Third Annual Carols & Choirs

On December 4, 2011, the Third Annual Carols & Choirs, sponsored by the Troy Clergy Association, took place at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church.

Big Beaver United Methodist Church, Central Woodward Christian Church, First United Methodist Church, Lutheran Church of the Master, Northminster Presbyterian Church and St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church choirs presented a repetoir of joyous songs that lifted each attendee into the spirit of Christmas. In between songs sung by the choir, the audience was invited to join in to sing Christmas favorites, such as Hark! the Herald Angels Sing, O Come All Ye Faithful and Silent Night among others.

The event was well attended and a basket was passed to anyone who wished to make a donation. All contributions were generously given to Troy People Concerned! As always, Troy People Concerned will be good stewards of these generous donations and assure you that this money will go to your Troy neighbors-in-need. This donation from the Third Annual Carols and Choirs Concert helps TPC continue to make available the programs that are so important to our at-need residents.

Troy People Concerned would like to thank everyone who performed, directed, accompanied, attended, donated or made and served the refreshments at the Third Annual Carols and Choirs.

Thanks to the Faculty and Students at Smith Middle School

Many thanks go out to the students and faculty at Smith Middle School for their bountiful donation of over $500.00 to Troy People Concerned. Kate Sablehouse, Student Council President nominated Troy People Concerned to be the recipient of Smith’s 2011 Penny War fundraiser. These funds will be used to help some of the Troy families that are in crisis, allowing them to keep their utlilities turned on or to avoid eviction and or foreclosure. Thank you for all you did to help others!

A Special Thanks to Our 2011 Holiday Basket Donors

We wish to thank our very generous 2011 Holiday Basket Program donors for providing ‘Help from the Heart’ to so many Troy families this past holiday season. 61 families (260 members) received food donations at Thanksgiving and 69 families (290 members) received food and gifts from our many caring and compassionate donors, truly making this holiday season to remember. The Troy People Concerned board members and staff salute you for all you have done to assist those in need! Thank you.

Spring Outreach

Troy People Concerned has teamed up with Big Beaver United Methodist Church Change the World Day, Kensington Small Group and Troy Women’s Association to assist seniors with small jobs around the home, such as yard clean-up, window washing, repairs, and grocery shopping. During the past two months, TPC staff has been contacting Troy seniors and compiling a list of those that could need help. We currently have 22 seniors registered for the Spring Outreach program. If you would like to volunteer or you can use help, please contact our office.

Easter Assistance

Troy People Concerned received requests for Easter help from 26 Troy area families (a total of 61 children). Seven local organizations volunteered to assist these families with food and Easter Baskets. TPC appreciates all of the help we received from this wonderful group of volunteers.

TPC Needs Volunteer Drivers

Troy People Concerned ( tpchelps.org ) is in desperate need of volunteer drivers to take senior citizens to doctors appointments in the area. The commitment is for one time per month, but more would be greatly appreciated. Any volunteers may call the TPC office at 248 528-9199 or respond to this post. Thank you!!

TPC Honors Jim Priest

Troy People Concerned honored Jim Priest of Faith Lutheran Church as its Outstanding Volunteer of the Year at Leadership Troy’s annual dinner on October 20 at Petruzzello’s Banquet Hall in Troy. Jim has been organizing Faith’s food pantry for several years and is instrumental in getting food to the clients of Troy People Concerned. Jim is also responsible for overseeing Faith’s Top Off Crew, which does minor car maintenance for the clients at no charge. Congratulations, Jim!!
